Uncle Block's Torch of Freedom

I have decided to do something different .... I am going to include the following Youtube video on all of my pages even though it takes up a lot of space at the top of the page. This man, Pat Condell, is, in my opinion, someone who needs to be heard.

Watch the video. If you think what he is saying makes sense make sure you watch all of his videos on YouTube.

As far as I am concerned this man is a breath of fresh air in a world of political and superstitious bullshit that seems to be flooding our world more than ever these days.

A Diet that Works!

I had been gaining weight all of my adult life and seemed to be gaining at an accerating rate since my early twenties. When I was about twenty-five I weighed about 175 pounds. In my thirties the average had jumped to the mid 180's. Then I hit the fourties and went into the 190's and beyond. By the spring of year 2000 I was bulging along at 204 pounds.

I had never given dieting a serious attempt because my affinity for junk food seemed just too strong. I tried starvation once, and it worked... until I stopped starving and gained it all back, and them some. I also tried hard labour employment combined with five nights per week of weight-lifting and judo. This worked extremely well but was difficult to maintain for a lazy smoker who hates excercise.

One day I asked my doctor for advice on losing weight. She suggested I try the Atkins Diet. She explained I could continue to eat a lot of the foods I like, such as steak and eggs and bacon and cheese. Well, that didn't sound too bad.

So I finally got around to buying a copy of the Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution and read a few chapters. Some of it sounded pretty good to me. Then I put the book down and got into something else. I didn't lose any weight at all.... but I did switch from using sugar in my tea to artificial sweetener. Then one day while putting on my pants I noticed I had to tighten the belt an extra notch. That made me think again about this diet... if all I did was cut sugar to lose an inch what would happen if I actually tried to follow the advice in Atkins' book?

I then finished the book and started following the advice. I quit all breads, pizza and pasta and any other foods or drinks that were high in carbohydrates. I quit beer. I lost about fourteen pounds in the first two weeks.

That was around May of 2000. I kept on losing weight for the rest of the summer. The loss slowed down with time but continued steadily until September when I finally broke the 170 pound barrier. That's not a bad result.

The beauty of this diet is that you never have to go hungry and you still get to eat a lot of stuff you like.

If you want to lose weight fast without going hungry visit amazon.com and buy a copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution.

Frederic Bastiat

"The state is that fictitious entity by which everyone attempts to live at the expense of everyone else."

Milton Friedman

"Freedom in economic arrangements is itself a component of freedom broadly understood, so economic freedom is an end in itself.... Economic freedom is also an indespensable means toward the achievement of political freedom."

Ayn Rand

"Any alleged right of one person which necessitates the violation of the rights of another is not, and can never be a right.” ."

H.L. Mencken

The theory behind representative government is that superior men--or at all events, men not inferior to the average in ability and integrity--are chosen to manage the public business, and that they carry on this work with reasonable intelligence and honesty. There is little support for that theory in the known facts...

Ludwig von Mises

"The worst evils which mankind has ever had to endure were inflicted by bad governments. The state can be and has often been in the course of history the main source of mischief and disaster."

Robert Green Ingersoll

"Without Liberty, the brain is a dungeon."

Oliver W. Holmes

"The very aim and end of our institutions is just this: that we may think what we like and say what we think."
