Job 9June 1975 - November 1975 Sheet Metal Worker - B&W InstallationsLearning I had been fired from my previous position another guy I knew who was running his own one man sheet metal installation business hired me to work for him. This was a pretty good job at first because he paid me cash and I was also collecting unemployment insurance (I am hoping here that there is some kind of statute of limitations.) We did a whole lot of small jobs for McDonald's Restaurants and others which involved a good deal of travel... as far as Sudbury and North Bay even. Then one day, while we were doing a McDonald's job in Fort Erie the boss sent me out to get lunch at a nearby A&W Drive Inn. When I drove into the A&W I forgot that the pickup truck had a large camper-like unit on the back and literally drove right into the A&W canopy causing several hundred dollars damage. When I told the boss what had happened he, er, exclaimed, "YOU FUCKIN' GUYS COULDN'T DRIVE A WHEELBARROW!" The bosses' insurance company told him they would not cover the damage unless he put me on the regular payroll. Hence my double dipping practice ended swiftly. I guess the guy made so much money in such a short time that he decided to retire in the fall of that year and I was laid off. Joe Schlockenblock explains, How find a job and Get off Welfare.
