Alban Arthuan

Have a festive Alban Arthuan - the original celebration of the Winter Stolstice that some 'extra', bright, caveman discovered - thus becoming the first 'shaman' and religious leader of the 'tribe'.

I used to be an Atheist - for 30 years - but recently 'converted' to 'Agnosticism'. For most of my life (of nearly 53 years), I believed in Science and that Man could understand all in the Universe. In the 'light' of Quantum Mechanics, it now seems very likely that we will never be able to build instruments small enough to measure the tiniest particles and to test and verify theoretical limits at the extreme. In calculus this leads to a mathematical singularity.

This 'singularity' in the 'reality' we perceive implies that there will be elements of the Universe that no living creature can ever comprehend. This is due to the cosmological, homogenous nature of all matter in the Universe. Simply put: We are all Star Dust! All Life is made of the same Star Dust' the same elements.

LIFE is matter that has a unique nature! Intelligence is the ability to grasp the idea that we evolved from the stars. Real intelligence is to look up at the stars and to be able to say "WOW! What a trip!"

Who needs the proof of a 'God' - a creator - when one can appreciate the inate Beauty of the mechanism that is LIFE. THE LIFE FORCE!

CONSCIOUSNESS is no more than matter having evolved to be awed by itself!

Thanks to the 'inadequacy' of Science and the 'singularity' - there is still room for 'God' to exist. The proof of his existence or non is beyond Man - as are the limits of Science. However; the 'Life Force' is indisputable!

The 'gateway' to 'salvation' does not lie in dogmatic adherance to arbitrary 'prophets' but in a 'clean concsience'! As Socrates postulated, 'To know what is good and just - is to do what is good and just.' The key here is 'to know'!

If one can't KNOW 'God' yet knows of the 'Life Force', then it seems that salvation lies in simply being able to say that one has touched more people in a positive way than a negative. This is in accordance with the 'Life Force"

If one can say that they have done this, no 'God' worthy of the word or 'idea' of a 'God', would deny salvation.

In the mean time ...I don't know if there is a God and I don't care! I don't need a God to appreciate the Life I have been given; a moment to look up and say "WOW!" I am thankful to the 'Life Force' for having been given both the opportunity to be overwhelmed by it all AND for the MIND that allowed me the 'luxury' of getting lost in the Universe! If in the end there is a 'God', when we meet, I shall be his staunchest admirer and supporter.

Until then, I shall continue to look up; to feel so insignificant - yet so important - as a noodle in a cosmic soup of quanta. I shall continue to learn and enjoy the best that the Universe and Humanity has created, simmered with a touch of the brutality that Humans are so easily capable of; to be a positive force with Truth as the ultimate virtue and Beauty as the ultimate reward.

And to lie in the shade of a beautiful tree on a warm sunny day with a beautiful loving woman.

The closest I have ever felt with the Universe is when lying entwined in the arms of a lover in an orgasmic 'black hole' of ecstasy with the stars swirling about.

The greatest of creations are trees and women - and not necessarily in that order.

In WOMEN - lies HEAVEN.
