Unexplained Weight Loss
Dear Uncle Block,
I have a question about my wife Hillary and her lack of eating these days. I initially noticed her slimming out a few weeks back, but thought since she was so chubby before, it was just her metabolism catching up to her and so I didn't give it much thought. I however noticed this morning she seemed to have the inability to eat, although she showed great interest in doing so. She'd picked up food in her mouth then dropped it a second later.
Yours Truly,
Bill from Little Rock
Uncle Block Replies:
Take her to the doctor.... or a vet and have him check whether her teeth are long. If so, get him to trim down her front ones - top and bottom.
If he can't see the back ones I think it is safe to assume that they are alright.
Bill writes back to Uncle Block,
Anyways, i got her home, and once again, she showed interest in eating, but dropped her food almost right away.

Uncle Block Replies:
Try to feed her with a turkey baster and a mesh of pellets, water, and vitamin c drops. I figure, once you have done that you could feed her some mushed up fruits and veggies.
Bill writes back to Uncle Block,
I tried the turkey baster but that didn't work. So I tried using a syringe but that was a crazy struggle in itself with me managing only to get a few almost insignificant drops in her mouth. Any advice would be great and very much appreciated.

Uncle Block Replies:
Try and get a look at her back teeth. They should be easily visible when looking in her mouth and lifting up the side of the mouth. My wife had the same problem once and I couldn't seem to see them either. I had to use a tire jack to pry open her jaws to an extent where I could see her teeth but that caused other problems which still have not sufficiently healed.
Your syringe idea sounds like a good one if force feeding with a turkey baster doesn't work.
I am wondering now if there are any possible medical reasonings behind what this can be? The thought of her being hungry and unable to eat breaks my heart. I think you should look for any advice as to what you can do.
Try taking her back to the doctor or vet tomorrow. At least now, having benefitted from my advice you can go in somewhat knowledgeable. With the added ammunition of my highly educated extensive knowledge on the subject, you should be able to guide the doctor or vet toward a solution.
